Intro to Winter Camping

Date:

Activity: Camping
Rating: Enjoyable by All

Join us for a weekend and learn the tips and tricks to winter camping in a safe and controlled environment.

We will be close to the cars in case anything goes wrong (or you just plain ol' prefer to sleep in the car instead). We will ensure you have the proper gear, and practice methods of pitching your tent on snow, how to keep water from freezing overnight, how to dry your gear if you dont have a fire, and what to do when it's too cold to use your pocket rocket/LPG stove.

To add to the fun, well bring the mini projector and watch a movie by our fire after dark.

Trip Organizers: Mitayo & Melissa

The plan is to head out to a PLUZ (Public Land Use Zone) Saturday morning. We will meet at 8:00am in the north end of Cochrane here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/aeXaLTouXRJkGDwd7

If you are coming from elsewhere in Calgary, ask about carpooling!

We will head out to the wilderness, explore around and find a suitable campsite, and spend the night.

In the morning, we will pack up, do some more exploring, and head home.

Snowshoes/glideskis are recommended for the exploring activities, see the pack list for the full details of what to bring. If you have questions about gear or need to borrow anything, please note it in your response comments.

Food: lunches for all days should be prepared as you would for a day hike. For Saturday supper and Sunday morning breakfast, we will have stoves/fire available and will be making more involved meals (steak/potatoes, bacon/pancakes, etc) contrary to what we would normally do on a multi-day winter backpack trip. We are aiming for most peot to bring their own food to prepare, but if you need some ideas or want to pair up with someone just let me know in the response comments.
